Dear Families,
Happy Memorial Day! I hope you all have had a safe and fun 3-day weekend and have had a chance to pay your respects to all the veterans today. We are officially beginning to count down to the last days of school. We've been remarking in class lately about how fast this school year has gone and how much everyone has accomplished this year. There has been amazing growth for everyone in different ways. I'm very proud of them. This week will be a work week. On Tuesday, students will be doing their summative assessment for this final unit, How we organize ourselves. They'll be creating an infographic to communicate and demonstrate their understanding of the American Revolution. We'll continue reading Manic Magee this week to see how Jeffery and Grayson manage to live in a bandshell and how their friendship develops. We'll work on coordinate graphs this week as a preparation for 6th grade math. On Thursday morning, K-7th graders will "Step Up" to their next grade level to meet the teachers and learn about what to expect in the year ahead. Mrs. Madden set up a STEM Festival by Lawrence Hall of Science for Friday morning. Each class will get to spend about an hour at the festival learning about science, technology and math. Volunteers may still be needed. Please contact Mrs. Madden if you can help out. There will be a Recognition Recess on Tuesday for all that have received Learner Profile recognition cards. In addition, all students whose parents have completed the ISM survey will also be allowed to attend this special recess. Friday, June 2nd is a free dress day. Next week Highlights: Wednesday, June 7th is Field Day. It will be a full school day, students will be dismissed at 3:05. It is a free dress day that day. Students should wear "active" clothing and shoes that they would wear to PE. If you can help out that day, please contact Mr. Robby. Thursday, June 8th is the last day of school. It is a uniform day. Students will be dismissed at 12:55 that day. Please plan ahead for the time switch of those two days. There will be an all-school assembly that morning. All are welcome. As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Best wishes, Ms. Welsh

AuthorThis is my tenth year at ISM and fifth year teaching 5th grade. I enjoy working with young people and being with my family. I love being outdoors in nature, on or in the ocean. I look for ways to continue learning and growing. Archives
