Dear 5B Families,
I hope you all enjoyed your three day weekend. We have one more full week ahead of us before another extended break from November 23-27 for Thanksgiving. This first term has flown by! Class pictures On Tuesday, November 15 (this week) 5th grade school pictures will be taken. Please make sure your child comes in complete uniform for the photos. UOI This week is our last week of the How the World Works unit. Students will have a summative assessment project this week to make a short video with a small group about what they've learned in this unit. We'll be using a program called ClipChamp and will have time to explore how it works in class. Language Arts We'll continue reading Every Soul a Star throughout the week and most likely will extend the book to the next unit. The class is really enjoying the book. We will continue with spelling this week. Students' spelling words will come from math, our class novel and words they misspell in their own writing (personalized spelling words). In addition we will continue with out current writing project, writing a research report. Math Students took their math summative assessment last week and will be moving on to our next unit which will start off with operations with decimals. The Wacky Wednesday that was scheduled for this Wednesday has been changed to Wednesday, Nov. 30th so that the middle school students weren't wearing their "Lazy Sunday" wear for school photos. This Friday, November 18 is a Free Dress Friday. Wishing you a wonderful week! Warm regards, Ms. Beletti

Dear 5B families,
I hope you are doing well. As you know, this week is a 4-day week. Friday is a holiday for Veteran's Day to honor those who serve and served our country in the military. Math We will continue to practice additive volume this week. Language Arts There just be 10 spelling words this week due to the shorter number of school days. The spelling test will be on Thursday. We will practice writing thesis statements as we continue to study and write our own research papers using the information and data gathered during the guided inquiry. We'll continue reading our novel Every Soul a Star this week with students working on comprehension of the story. UOI Groups will complete their presentations of their spheres of the Earth guided inquiry. After the completion of the presentation, students will learn about matter this week. There is a talk on Wednesday evening that goes with our unit if anyone can make it. (I have a workshop in Salinas I am attended that night.) It looks to be interesting: Nov 2016 Community Night With the Library NASA Astronaut Capt. Daniel W. Bursch Instructor Space Systems Academic Group Naval Postgraduate School Monterey Wed, Nov 9 at 7 pm Carpenter Hall at Sunset Center, 9th & Mission, Carmel Join Astronaut Daniel Bursch for a talk about space.
